Jessica Bolander Bio
Jessica Bolander is a Swedish illustrator and artist, born and raised in Sweden, and she started drawing and painting at a very early age. Growing up on a farm on the Swedish countryside with no other children around, there was plenty of time to play with the family pets and animals on the farm, and to study and draw them.
After painting and drawing nearly every day, with a creative imagination and close attention to detail, she combined the love of animals and nature with both Scandinavian folklore and realism in her art. After graduating, she continued to create illustrations and paintings in her spare time, working in different mediums such as watercolors, colored pencils and acrylics. Soon her highly detailed paintings of cats, dogs, Santa’s and tomte / gnomes caught the interest of one of Scandinavia’s most renowned greeting card and stationery companies, the same company that were also once working with the much loved and celebrated Swedish artist Jenny Nyström in the 1800’s. Jessica began working with them, creating colorful watercolor images for an array of products for sale in Scandinavia.
Today, with more than 15 years as a freelance artist, Jessica has worked with companies all over the world. Her adorable animals and detailed artwork has adorned greeting cards, jigsaw puzzles, garden flags, porcelain figurines, textile products and much more.
Married with two daughters and a bunch of much-loved family pets, she is currently working from her home studio in the Swedish countryside, with animals, folklore, nature and wildlife enduring as her greatest inspirations.
